Biography
Matthew Cox is an associate attorney at Dobbs Legal Group, and brings more than a decade of legal and litigation experience to the firm. A native of Peru, Matt graduated from Maconaquah High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Indiana University. Subsequently, Matt earned his Juris Doctor at Chapman University’s Fowler School of Law in Orange County, California, where he specialized in dispute resolution and mediation.
Matt began his legal career working in-house at a national healthcare company, where he gained valuable corporate and transactional experience. He later transitioned to a litigation firm, handling business and probate disputes including intricate trust and estate matters. This trial experience included presenting oral arguments before the California Court of Appeals. Matt’s practice expanded to complex personal injury and product liability defense, where he successfully managed multimillion-dollar litigation claims.
Most recently, Matt served as a partner at one of the largest law firms in the country, defending healthcare providers, hospitals, and long-term care facilities in complex healthcare litigation. He developed extensive experience in all aspects of high-stakes litigation, including trials and arbitrations, taking and defending expert depositions, and resolving seven and eight figure claims through mediation.
Beyond his litigation practice, Matt has been active in professional and community service. He has served as an attorney coach for a high school mock trial team, vice chair of the Health Care Law Section of the Orange County Bar Association, and as a mentor to new attorneys.
By returning to his hometown, Matt is dedicated to building lasting relationships with the clients of Dobbs Legal Group as trusted counsel in business law and estate and farm succession planning, and strengthening the Peru community as he and his wife raise their two young sons.
